home?
Right now there are so many Italian films available on Netflix and Amazon Prime!
Here is a selection of some of our favourites, you can watch them all in Italian with English or
Italian subtitles (or no subtitles at all!).They are set in different parts of Italy and also in different
periods, a great way to learn Italian and find out more about Italy’s beauty and culture at the same
time!

The life ahead (La vita davanti a sé, 2020), Netflix
Great drama with the amazing Sophia Loren about a holocaust survivor who forms an unlikely
friendship with a young street boy.

Rose island (L’incredibile storia dell’isola delle Rose, 2020),  Netflix
The true story of an Italian engineer who built his own island in the Sixties and declared it
independent.

The great beauty (La grande bellezza, 2013),  Netflix
Award winning film by director Paolo Sorrentino that captures the spirit and beauty of the city of
Rome.

The hand of God (È stata la  mano di Dio), Netflix
The latest film by Paolo Sorrentino, set in Naples in the 1980s,  about family, love of football and
filmmaking.

The ruthless (Lo spietato, 2019), on Netflix
Based on the true story of a rebellious teenager who grew up to become one of Milan’s most
notorious criminals in the 1980s.

Four to dinner (Quattro metà, 2021), on Netflix
Rom-com with parallel storylines about four single friends exploring the concept of
soulmates. Will they ever find their “anima gemella”?

Life is beautiful (La vita è bella, 1998 ), on Amazon Prime
In this Oscar winning film, the beautiful story of a loving father who wants to hide the  horrors of
World War II from his young boy. A charming, poetic and very special film with one of our favourite
Italian actors, Roberto Benigni.

The postman (Il postino, 1994), on Amazon Prime
The fictional story of real life poet Pablo Neruda and his friendship with the local postman. A must
watch of Italian cinema, a beautiful story of love, poetry and friendship.

Cinema Paradiso (Nuovo cinema Paradiso, 1988 ), on Amazon Prime
A very personal story about a film director returning to his native Sicily and remembering how his
love for films began. A gem by director Giuseppe Tornatore.
